The scouting party to Staten Island returned with reports of widespread damage in that area. Contact was made with representatives of FEMA, Mayor’s Office and NYC OEM. There is a wide disparity in the efficiency, inventory and staffing at the PODs on Staten Island. NIMO recommended that OEM order a Type 3 IMT with sufficient support to operate three PODs on a 24 hour basis. In the meantime, part of the Fulton Hotshots will work at one POD to improve organization and efficiency and stand up another to make supplies more accessible to residents. Cleaning supplies and hand tools are in demand for residents who want to start rehabbing their homes. The Shots worked with the Salvation Army to acquire 1,000 cleaning kits for distribution.
Resource orders through the OEM move at a snail’s pace which will affect how soon the PODs on Staten Island are operational. Ordering is also a concern for Citi Field LSA operations as the Ohio IMT times out over the weekend. Resources ordered through ESF4 continue to arrive to support the Logistical Staging Area and the FEMA DIVS in the boroughs.
A severe weather safety plan is in place for all resources at the LSA at Citi Field for the approaching nor’easter.
Gasoline, rental cars and hotel rooms remain critical shortages.
