The WFD Workgroup would like to thank Darrel Schwilling for his leadership. His contributions to the workgroup, particularly to the NATP program, will live on for years to

Engaging the Militia
The WFD Workgroup
completed production of a video with accompanying brochure to encourage militia
participation in Incident Management focusing on non-operational positions.
Several members
from the WFD WG and NATP continue to assist with the National Fire Hire
Program. This is a huge effort to lead the agency to a collective hiring model.
Specialized Training
NIMO receives multiple requests for Type 3 and other Incident Management training. The Workgroup continues to track and coordinate.

S-520 SIM
The WFD Workgroup led the implementation of the new S-520 SIM. The
changes met the challenge to increase student engagement and experience from a
strategic perspective.
WO Workforce &
Training and NIMO Workforce Development Workgroup Meeting in North Carolina
The WO and NIMO Workforce Development groups continue their collaboration
and integration. We had a joint meeting in November to share accomplishments
from 2017 and to engage on dialogue about work that could be combined or ways
to assist each other to be more successful in the future.
Professional Development
The WFD Workgroup
challenged all NIMOs to focus some energy on their personal development.
· Lorri Benefield– Enrolled in Toast Masters with the
goal of improving public speaking skills.
· Bruce Palmer –
Maintaining Certified Forester credential by attending workshops,
webinars and conferences.
· Jim Starling– Reading “Everyday Survival” by Laurence Gonzales to deepen understanding of risk
management and changing environments.
NATP Continues…
2017/2018
NATP – After an
extremely busy western fire season, the current NATP class is focused on their
special projects, engaging with agency leadership and preparing for their final
residential session at the WO.

Alumni continues to thrive on oppor-tunities for career advancement, to pursue
leadership challenges and maintains their relationships with NIMO and other
program participants.
